Shorten PAL Approval Times

My interviews were done over a week ago, the lady from the cfc said she sent the app to the ontario cfo right after the interviews were complete. Online it still has not changed from in progress. Should I call the Ontario cfo to inquire? Will they approve over the phone ?

They will not approve it over the phone.. and the ON CFO is infamous for stupid (and intentional as has been proven many times) delays with everything. Best to inquire with the CFC.. and let them harass the CFO

I'm starting to get some mixed info here lol who does the interviews CFC or CFO ? In my case it's gone to the CFO without any interviews.

The cfc does the interviews. Once thats done they send it electronically to the cfo's office for final stamp of approval. How do you know it went to the cfo? Does your status say that? Are you getting an rpal as well?

No just a PAL. I called this morning at the CFC for the status and was told it was sent to CFO on the 3rd, and to give them about 2 weeks before calling again as they may be dealing with a backlog which I would understand considering the time of year.

WOW!! been there for almost 2 weeks, just for a stamp? DAMN.

It's Quebec !!!!! Had to wait almost 6 months to start receiving my provincial baby cheque for my daughter LOL So two weeks for a Firearms Licence in the Marois era isn't surprising. I'm not expecting anything till well into February.

Doesn't sound like Ontario is any better right now, Shouldnt have bought my firearm already, I find myself checking my status a few times a day now. I want to take it home with me.

I'm in the same boat at lest half dozen times a day or not more lol. Mossy 500 paid for sitting at the store just waiting for me. I have a few friends who offered to pick it up for me and holding on to it for so I could at least go shooting with them but I want the pleasure of picking up my first firearm on my own.

Reminds me of being a kid and not sneaking a peak under the tree before morning. I put down half on a new glock 22 gen 4, went in the other day to throw down the rest. Without even asking guy goes in the back grabs my kit puts it in front of me and says "ill give you some time alone". He totally got it.

I'm jealous lol. Good on him to give you two some alone time though.

The AB CFO seems to be efficient...
I mailed my NR Pal application Dec. 6.
I called Jan 7th as the website had no info for me. I was told there was a lot of unopened mail from before the holidays. The very next day my info was available on the website as being through the initial processing.
Today Jan 14th it's been issued!

...So I joined this site and have a week or two before the card shows up in the mail, which will give me time to browse through all the dealers and top off my credit card.

My savage mk2 is paid and sitting in the store. I feel your pain.

I am on hold with the CFC as I type this.

Edit-I like their hold music.

Well when you do get your liscense it will be a few more days for then to transfer the gun into your name, thankfully its from a dealer so prb a week, if it was a person to person you would be waiting more than a month. I swear do do this just because they don't get the HST from the sale. That's prb why they are dragging their feet

Nice thought.. but if only it was the HST they would do the same crap as they have done with used cars.

No in this case the delays are quite intentional and are to 'discourage" and frustrate us by the CFO's etc.

just seems they can do a dealer transfer in 2 days and p2p in 45 days ? lol! cant be that much different

They can.. and they could do ALL xfers in under a cpl hrs actually. However they don't want to. Difference is if they are screwing too much with the dealers they get taken to court etc for destroying and/or harming the livelyhood of the owner etc etc. However private xfers (sales or not).. they can punish far more.

Oh and remember w/the staff they have they put an absolute min on xfers.. and mostly take up their time trying to create new ways to act like they can create laws.. and to generally be as big a PITA as they can possibly be to the law abiding firearms owners. Make no mistake.. the CFO's are NOT our friends and they are not out to do any real good. Sounds cynical perhaps.. but it sadly is the reality.

Finally, approved and issued. Just got a call today (a callback actually from when I called them earlier). They said there has been a big backlog. Sep 17, 2012 - Jan 1, 2013. So relieved.
