god dammit someone answer me....... lol you guys suck...
ill ask again, i dont think that you need to modify the gas system at all but is any mod necessary to cycle with a shorter barrel?? it seems that if any mod was necessary you guys would have been mentioning it
Gas system is still fine when chopped. Have your barrel chopped to 18.75 " though. 18.5" is minimum legal length, so go 18.75"......it allows for touch-up or re-crowning if you end up with damage later on.
gas system - everybody is saying it is fine although I had a few short strokes. I never fired that particular rifle before chopping the barrel and that is the only short one I ever had. I had to smooth all surfaces to make it ultra-smooth probably niciest m14 action ever to make it shoot flawlessly with shortened bbl. I think gas system needs some 2" of barrel beyond gas port to operate properly. I am sure somebody very hungry will jump in and correct me but those 2" I will never give up .
Barrel is measured bolt face to crown.
middle = SHORTY M14 with 18 3/4" barrel, Norc Flashider tapped and threaded on
bottom = SHORTY M14 with 19" barrel, Norc flashider cut down into front sight base only, then threaded on, and YHM AR 15 combination FH/Compensater threaded on remaining threads
