Shortening Remington 870 Magazine

WRONG spent 6 months with the RCMP,CFC and CFO trying to reregister a 870 as restricted.

however you did it is just an example how the registry is screwed up..
Did you cut the barrel down or did you use a "manufacturers "factory " barrel?

A prohibited firearm is:

- A rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make the barrel length less than 18" where the overall length is 26" or more.

This is what is on my PAL information sheet.

and also

Definition of a Prohibited Firearm

The Criminal Code states that a prohibited firearm is:

* a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make it less than 660 mm (26 inches) in overall length;

so whats your point?

Wrong. Done it.....twice.

Were they shotguns or rifles? Not that it should matter really but has anyone here changed the classification of shotgun from non-res to res?

Interesting debate so are Dlask shotguns with short barrels considered "altered" or “manufactured"?

you can use "factory barrels". dlask is considered factory. i beleive you can go to 12inches and still use the factory stock and mag tube and be over 26. thats not a change from non-restrict, just a barrel change. (reg will show <470mm barrel)

as far as prohib definition goes as discussed above I believe "altering" refers to sawing, cutting, or other method. It does not refer to swapping of parts unaltered from the way they came from the factory. otherwise all the 14 inch & lower shotgun barrels would create prohib guns which they do not.

another example is the Krinker conversion kit. SI understand some of these will change your firearm to restricted because of OAL

Dave Tomlinson wrote an article on this very point. it mioght be accessible on the NFA site.

I have to ask, what does one do with a restricted shotgun?

As I understand that basically classes it the same as a handgun and with the same restrictions for transportation and where you can shoot it... ?

Does that mean you can only shoot it at a range licensed for restricted firearms? No hunting with it? (Although hunting with an 8.5 inch shotgun would be useless anyway)

Power and range are very limited. If you can only shoot it at a range - what is the great attraction for such a short barrel?

Its cool as hell, you can walk around your house and clear hallways much easier with a short barrel, and its great for zombie defense.

with a non restricted 8.5 incher - manoeuverability (spelling?) - light weight - short range "bear defense" - grouse hunting. I'll be running velocity tests with slugs this summer- but i'm guessing judging from recoil that 50 yards power and effectiveness should be good

Strange post from a guntech/gunnut? I still find it fun to shoot firearms at the range, in fact when I think of it all my shooting for the past two years have been at a range only:eek: , there isn't anywhere around where I live that's easier to get to or better set up. Some people even find joy in collecting firearms that you can't shoot anywhere.;)

Really? Seems to me the only only thing "useless" would be the hunter, Power and range may be limited but I wouldn't stand in front of one, have you even tried it? (firing one that is.;) )

I believe the answer is because you can.;) :D

Well my first thoughts were most would just like to have something 8.5 inches long to fondle. :D

The power is way down due to velocity loss and if there is no choke shot is pretty much useless too. I have tested 28 inch to 12 inch barrels.. unforunately everything I had under 24 inches had no choke.. I shot at 45 gallon steel drums... the shorter barrels just dented the drums, the longer barrels blew holes in them.

It still would be enough for zombies in your bedroom though.
