shortest barrel on a 10/22

I am not really sure.... anything shorter than 14" will start to cost you accuracy out past 75yrds I think.... 16" is the one I am looking to aquire..... shorter, still legal and out past 16" there is no advantage for velocity or accuracy IMO.

I have seen barrels 8" long but you may want to measure your stock to see if that is an issue for OAL. It really depends on the stock you bought, if I'm not mistaken Houge make 3 models?

8.5" with standard wood stock is about 27" OAL :D (I had to shorten the forestock and widen the channel for the barrel)

just how acccurate is that thing....... looks kinda funky!

I was into my local g-store, I asked how short of barrels could he get.... I told him I wanted a 16" and he told me he is not allowed to shorten the barrel (cut 4" off) but if someone makes a shorter barrel and the OAL is over 26" its non-restricted and legal to hunt with.

Its nice to see people that are taking it right down to the min allowed!!! Just keep the barrel over 105mm..... don't want to head into prohib territory!!!

For all you guys still in the process of puting on shorter barrels out there..... Remeber the OAL must include the folding stock (if that is what you got) folded not extended...... so the smallest it will go..... If you don't pay attention you may have to re-register your you non-restricted 10/22 as a restricted......

on a .22RF ( or non-semi- auto centerfire) you can put anything you want on as long as it's manufactured that way and its non restricted if the overall length is over 26" length ( folders can't go below 26" either) no. for instance the Dlask 6 inch 870 barrels on a normal 870 action and stock are non-restricted.

AFAIK the 105mm only applies to handguns the law is silent on their use in rifles . perhaps someone who researched it more could confirm this or correct me.
Iin any case though any rifle or shotgun barrel below 18.5" ( semis) or 18" ( non-semi) cannot be cut down legally.

I can't shoot it as is cuz there are no sights. I need to scope it. I'm going to look into a scope this summer.

I bought a 8.5 inch barrel for my Krinker Plinker kit, the kit came with a 16 incher but I wanted something shorter.l

It was having cycling problems until I did some work on the trigger group(polishing) and altered the hammer spring. Now it cycles fine. The cycling problem arose from not having sufficient back-pressure and gases to cycle the bolt all the way back, this can happen with shorties.

I did have to pin the folding stock so that it is unable to fold, it now has a 26in OAL length, with the stock folded it was approx. 15 inches which made it a Restricted.

Short barrels look alot better in my opinion.
