I'm looking to buy or have built the shortest 12 gauge pump shotgun possible with the most rounds in the magazine possible to use an emergency bear gun.
To me it would be a shotgun with a telescopic stock so it could have a longer barrel and magazine while still keeping it the 26" overall length mark.

My question is, which telescopic stock is the smallest when folded up and how long could the barrel be while staying at the minimum 26" overall length?

How many shots do you expect to get at a bear in an emergency situation?

I think that 18.5" barrel with a folding stock is the limit, and you can add a shot extender. But I just got a 12.5" barreled 870 with a telescopic stock that, at its shortest, is just over 29". I like the telescopic stock better, as it is a lot easier to shoulder quickly, and is still very compact.

Thank you or your response brother1. If I may ask, how many shells does it hold, what kind of stock is it and where did you get it?

I'd look at a 12.5" Grizzly with what ever stock you like ( short length of pull hogue or a Spec Ops)
You get 4 shells in the tube and a small package with a good stock on the back instead of a folder.

Here are some pics of my folding and telescopic guns.
The top folder is a rem 870 18.5" barrel
the telescopic folder is a 870 knockoff with a grizzly 12.5" barrel and an S&J stock adapter, this is from badboybeeson, it holds 4 shells in the tube and one in the pipe.
The side folder is a S&W shotgun
as you can see, they are all about the same length, but I think the telescopic stock is the handiest, and by far, my favorite! I shot trap with it the other day, with no sights on it, and hit 20/25...pretty happy!!:dancingbanana:

Brother - that 12.5" is SWEET.

I'll post some pics of my new Sage 870 stock later this week... I'm putting it on my 14" Norinco - should be JUST over 26" when fully collapsed. I think that's the shortest package you can get with a telescopic stock.

Thanks for the pic Brother1. The 12.5" one looks like just what I'm looking for. What is it's overall length when folded up?

Hello Canucklehead,

That looks interesting. Please let us know how easy it is to open up once you get it.

29" collapsed, same as the top folder, but way faster to use. I'm just on my way to go trap shooting with it again...I love that gun!!
(I have my sxs trap gun as well...I'm not a complete tool):D

How much was the build cost on the 12.5"?

I'm thinking about building one REALLY cool 870 - and it looks just like that one. :) Wanna sell it?

I just bought it from badboybeeson at S&J hardware. No way I'm selling it! He can set you up with the stock adapter, just find a 12.5" grizzly and you're good to go!:)

12.5 with the stock our stock adaptor is the way to go if you want a fast opening stock system.
Myself i normaly use the 14 do i can get the =1 more would out of it making it 5+1 thats a full reload of the mesa side saddle that on the side
