I just got a 590a1 and I really need to chop the stock.
The lop is too long to be confortable.
It would be acceptable (not preferable) if i'd use a hunter stance, perpendicular to the target . But its no what i've learn, what comfortable with and what I want to do.
I use a parallel stance and even if 6'1" my left arm is just long enough to reach the foregrip. Plus I use a plate carrier most of the time when I shoot ( i would not says this one in the hunting section i'd get flamed...lol)

The stock LOP is 14" I want to make it 12".
My concerns are, how would I modify the recoil pad to fit the smaller back end of the stock?
Is 12" too short, would I regret it?

Just cut the stock down, remount the pad, you may need to glue threaded inserts in and sand/grind the pad down to fit. I use an angle grinder with sanding pad for the rough work and then an orbital sander to finish. Wrap the stock with a layer of masking tape to protect it.

I already figured how to cut the stock...its just the recoil pad that im not sure to cut it clean.

you dont cut it, like the poster above said, you sand it down with a grinder folowed by a sander for finishing. the tape protects the stock if you go at it carefully.

Try it, worse case, you bugger the stock, and buy the hougue one. Go slow, and you should do a fine job.

I've been thingking about this as well
i figured i could fill the empty space with something light and maybe add some bondo or fiberglass and then rescrew the recoil pad. i'm also looking for an older wood stock for my 870 if cheap enough to make it easier.
