ADJUSTABLE GAS LOCK

Beautiful job, this is exactly what I want to do with my new M14 using the original front sight. Have you tried zeroing it with your irons? Wondering how the elevation works out?

f55, I'd love to hear how those mags run. I always figured there should be some 'plastic' 14 mags...

Took the shorty to the range yesterday to make sure everything works. The rifle cycled all 40 rounds no problem.

I took 2 thermold mags and 2 Norinco mags from T.E.C

One of the thermold mags would not strip rounds, as soon as i release the op rod it tries to strip the first round but stops after pushing it forward a few cm, I checked the mag is seated properly but no go. The second thermold mag worked fine, both mags have a rivet through the main body of the mag.

The Norinco mags worked great and are not riveted at the back but have a welded base.

The tall SEI scope rings arrived last Friday and I mounted up the Leupold.

I zeroed it in on Monday and shot this group.

I'm not comfortable shooting from a bench and that's probably why I pulled one to the right.

I got a couple Millett DMS scopes recently and a set of UTG quick detach rings ... so I put them on my M14's ... the shorty will eventually be put in my McMillan folder stock once I get some bedding done.

Otokiak, I just can't wait to see your mcmillan stock dressing up your rifle.... Bed that sucker man :D :) and then post some pics for us

M14 Doc I'm in winnipeg so what type of bedding stuff do I need ... it says to glass bed this McMillan stock? I'd like to pick something up before I Leave on Monday.

rugbydave, I haven't shot or zero'ed in my rifles with the DMS scopes but I like the reticle, easy adjustments and it seems clear enough ... shall site them in next week when I return home.

Bed it with Devcon plastic steel or titanium($$$), use Johnson liquid floor wax for release agent and get some modeling clay from a hobby store, the kind that doesn't harden, to put in the nooks and crannys you don't want to get the epoxy in.

The MFS (Macmillan) stocks are perfectly inletted for bedding. I would recommend Art Lappino's dvd on bedding the m14/m1a, available from Brownells.

Forgot to add, Devcon products can be purchased at Aklands-Granger

Okay, I just read all 36 pages... please don't jump on me for this, but I couldn't find an answer.

If I hacksaw a regular barrel to 18.75 and dremel crown the muzzle, what can I expect? I know it's half ass, but I'm looking for cheap fun, reliability, looks and plinking, not ultra accuracy.

I'm also thinking of running it with no brake.
