Shorty shells for grouse?

Hi everyone,
I just found out about these 1 3/4" shells with birdshot. I think they'd be super fun to shot and possibly hunt with. Anyone ever take some grouse hunting? What's the word?

I figured if anything, my son might enjoy shooting them out of a 12ga!

I believe Aguila and Federal make some.

PS: I've seen videos that detail the feeding problems in pump and semi, but I was thinking of using them in a O/U.
 
The length of the shell matters not a bit, except as it fits the chamber or not. What it is loaded with is what counts. 3/4 oz or 7/8 oz are all the same no matter the shell length if they are coming out at the same speed.

What I have seen is 7/8 oz at 1250 fps roughly. Not hard to find similar in 2 3/4".
 
My kids used them out of a single shot Cooey 12 ga. 7 1/2 shot 5/8 oz. Works well out to 25 yards. Recoil is considerably less than from a 7/8 oz 20 ga.
 
After the ranges you would be shooting at, surely what would matter is what the shot string is like, and of course the resulting pattern. I was at one point in my grousing career persuaded that with more open chokes high brass shells will sort of blow a hole right through the shot string, making it less deadly, so perhaps underpowered shells are the way to go.
OTOH, maybe most of what I know about shot string is not correct, for instance this guy contradicts some stuff I learned:

I want to get them mainly for my son...low recoil. But I don't think he'd be able to shoulder neither of my 12ga shotguns. So this might be a moot point.

Nevertheless, I do want to give them a try...they look exotic lol

This short Aguila (5/8oz of 7.5 @1200FPS) handled the grouse a lot better than the grouse handled it.

Not that I expected any different. 7.5 at 1200FPS is 7.5 at 1200FPS no matter what it's shot out of. Surprisingly quiet, more of a crack like a .22 than a boom like even a trap load.

The shorty ( 8 ) and the Citory are responsable for 3 ruffed grouses this year.

Recoil negligable, wing shooting only, the shorty dont lack the power. Wing shots are inside 15 yards most of the time.
 
They are pretty much meant to use in a single shot or loads one at a time in a repeater .unless of course you own a mossberg 500 . in which case you can buy an adaptor . it allows the shells to be cycled through the action .
