Anyone out there know where to find a 8.5 inch barrel for a Mossberg 500/590 pump? There seems to be lots of Remington short barrels but no Mossberg. I know most of you are thinking ' why not just buy a short shot gun? ' well I have a shotgun I don't use and want to build it into a shorty (non-restricted) bear/camp gun.
I called the CFO to ask how to re-verify a shotgun to get the proper barrel length on my registration, and they said the only info they need is the manufacturer of the short barrel. (As it is unlawful to alter an existing barrel to under 18.5 inches).
Thanks

Mossbergs are limited to how short they can go because of the mag tube as I understand it.

One of the manufacturers here has been talking about a 12.5 or 14.5 inch(can't remember) Mossberg barrel. Not sure of when it is going to happen though.

To go shorter than 15" the mag tube needs to be modified, but that's not difficult or unlawful to do at home. Similar to a Surbu super shorty but with a full stock to keep it over 26" (non-restricted) is the desired finished product.

After talking to gunsmiths and suppliers, it looks like the most economical route is to sell my Mossy 500 and buy a Remington with a short barrel.:(

Think how lightweight an M500/M88 shorty would be  You could cut down the mag tube and re-weld the threaded bung on the end the same way theyre made at the factory. 8.5" and 12.5" models would be hot sellers for sure.

Im waiting for a 14.5" .
But for now if i want a shorty it will be a 870. I like the controls a bit better on the mossberg, but both are great guns.
