Shot a 1911 chambered in .45 today... for the first time

Norks by Gunnar

PS - Does anyone recall what Gunnar sells the tuned 1911A1's for? Is it $449? I am trying to figure out whether or not it is cheaper to buy one from Marstar and have them ship right to him, or if I should just wait until he gets some in. If I buy from Marstar and have them ship it right to Gunnar, have it tuned, and shipped it back to me... it comes to a total of $500 even. If Gunnar charges $449 before shipping and taxes it works out to the exact same price (wihtin $10) and I can pick one up right now from Marstar... which would kick ass.

Not to do Gunnar's work for him, but there's a used Commander on his website that might be what you're looking for...some extras too :)

"Slightly used Armco-Prepped Norinco 1911A1-C. This gun was just traded in, and sport a longer trigger, Pachmayr grips and mainspring housing. 2mags - one year ARMCO Warranty - $469 - Trades?"

.45 is THE cartridge. I fell in love with it the second I pulled the trigger. Gotta love that big fat "flying ashtray". 9mm doesn't quite have the same authority as the .45 when hitting a bowling pin or metal plate. The difference in reloading 9mm vs. .45 is negligible. I don't get why people keep saying that it's expensive? It uses little powder. Bullets may be cast easily or bought inexpensively for less than $70.00 per 500. Perhaps a little pricier than 9mm, but not that much.

Not much??? Dude, the .45 bullets are twice as much as the 9mm bullets.
230 grains / 2 = 115 grains

I don't understand why someone would want to shoot dollars down the range.
Most of us shoot paper. .22 or 9mm is more than enough to make a hole in a piece of paper.
If you worry about the mystical "stopping power", 9mm killed more people than .45ACP.
Google it.

The recoil cycle of 45 is totally different to 9mm/40/any other (pick one) the combination of pistol and cartridge with the 1911 is a nearly perfect balance, try one sometime. It's about quality of experience, and quantity. :D

Well, why don't we all just stick with .22LR. Or I could get a "prohib" Walther PPK airgun. That puts holes in paper too.

The point is, firing the real thing, as Mr. Browning intended, in whatever the calibre :)

FWIW, I reload .45 ACP at 16/100 and 9mm at 12/100 so the cost isn't 'doubled. I prefer shooting .45 ACP and it isn't about 'stopping power'. As for 'only' punching holes in paper, a .177 pellet/bb gun will do the same thing--even cheaper would be a slingshot..... I love the .45 ACP!!

there is no better auto pistol for reliability, function and stopping power than a good ol colt 1911 design gun. I'd bet my life and a 10 stack magazine on it hehehe :D
1911 in 45acp... who could ask for anything more.

Good .45 mags
CMC
Wilson (Elite mags - the 47 series spring suck as I found - and everyone else knew)
Tripp Performance
Nighthawk
(well in all accounts the Nighthawk custom and T P mags are much better - but more money than the CMC or Wilsons)

MECGAR mags suck ass...

You forgot to mention that they had to fire 4x as many 9mm to do the job that 1 .45 did..
*ducks*
One controlled shot from any decent calibre would do the trick! ;)

After reading a different thread, I'm thinking (should I feel the need for a more manly round), a Glock 37 in 45 GAP :slap:

I love my Norinco 1911. Be careful on the mags from marstar though. The mag that came with my Norinco works perfectly, however the cheap mags they sent me are a pain. I had to bend the lips because sometimes you put a clip in and all the rounds shoot out the top. The slide wouldn't stay open when empty. There are other feed failures as a result too. Save yourself the trouble and buy good mags.

45acp is by far my favourite caliber because it is very easy to shoot and it makes big holes. Recoil is more of a push than a snap.

The only issue I had with 45acp was cost. I do not reload. From my experience, to shoot factory 45acp compared to factory 9mm is approximately double the price.

BigRed and I put some rounds thru his SA Operator yesterday - his CMC 8's and 10rds ran flawlessly.

I'm pretty much ignoring the Wilson mags now except for their elites which come with Wolff springs.
