shot a vz58 for the first time

as accurate and as fun as the gun I was shooting is , I would only buy one in 7.62 , I have heard some of the 5.56 have reliability issues. I am a strong believer in buying a rifle that is chambered in the round it was designed for. might be one in my future.

The firing pin was moving freely and it was a spring loaded one so it's not the firing pin it's the trigger group that was bad they just replaced the whole gun for free. Now the new one is less accurate.

Do you work for the CBC brutus? Clean your firing pin for chrissakes.

Well I shot 4 5 shot groups into 50m and the fifth and last one was 3" at 50m. So it was pretty consistant. But I cleaned the barrel with a good cooper solvent. Before those 4 2" groups I was doing 4" to 5" at 50m but I shoot an entire crate without using a good cooper solvent so it was full of cooper fouling. So now I understand how important it is to do a good cleaning on centerfire rifles. My 10/22 don't need as much cleaning to keep it's accuracy. But really how do you clean your sks's do you use a good cooper solvent? Do you do a thorough cleaning each time you shoot it?

And without pics I call bs on your 2 inch at 50.

Glad to hear you resolved the problem. Yes I clean my VZ/SKS thoroughly after each shoot with boiling water then lots of Hoppes as I have only corrosive ammo.

I feel the same way about having a VZ58 in the original chambering but the 556 was well discounted after the shop couldn't sell it for a while. Very happy with my 556 sporter but would like one in 762 most preferably non restricted to start.

Wouldn't go as far to say it's his technique if he is getting 4" with an SKS.

Thanks for the suggestions. When the weather gets warmer, I'll do some more testing. I know it's not my technique. I was first thinking that it was technique at the beginning, but I ended up getting 10 inch groups regardless of how I was shooting with this gun, even from a bench rest. I was shooting mil surp 5.56 and was having the brass ejected everywhere without consistency so I thought it was faulty ammo. I even tried 200 rounds of American Eagle .223 and didn't get any better results except that the brass ejection is more consistent, flying about 6 feet. I've put about 600 rounds down the pipe and ended up frustrated with the inaccuracy, so it has been sitting in the safe for the last year. I really like everything else about the gun. I'll send it in for warranty work if I can't get it figured out this spring.

just to reiterate what the OP, welder01, was saying, I agree man! took mine out today and shot approx. 300 rounds through it. Used the 62 gr Barnaul stuff from SFRC. I made the mistake of not measuring the dust cover//casing ejection area (cuz im a newbie ok lol) and I couldn't mount my Vortex strike eagle on it, on account of being too long/large. I picked up a cheap Tasco red dot last night at Canadian Tire haha after today, that 50 dollar Tasco earned every penny I spent on it. A quick sight in at 50 yards, I was able to hit the steel gong at 200 meters ( Left side of the range here in McMurray is M and right side of the lane is yards) quite easily, and im still learning fundamentals of shooting, but off a sand bag it was consistently ringing, standing I was even able to ring it 2-4 times a magazine (Beowulf). Anyways, long winded sorry, but I enjoyed it. That is all haha
