In the last 5 seasons of harvesting a big game animal, what were the average distances you shot them? I only ask because does a super expensive rifle that shoots 1/4" group at 100 yards kill an animal any better then one that costs $300 and has a 2" group at 100 yards?

You have a great point - there are two types of rifles (hunting) and (target) rifles as long as you can hit a 8 inch circle at 200 yards your good. I literally shake my head when I hear people complaining that their rifles always gets flyers on the 4th or 5th shot. They blame the rifle a closer look and you can tell that they bought a hunting rifle not an ultra precision one.
