Looks to me like someone used a pipe cutting tool

ok after reason took back control from panic i cleaned the crevice out with a stainless steel wheel on my dremel and examined it with a lens it appears just to be a machining imperfection
probably the lathe drug a chip around i guess

It is possible that the barrel is sleeved into the breach. I had a Stevens shotgun with that style of construction. In a double I think it is referred to as monoblock construction. Some companies disguise the joint by sort of knurling over the join and usually the joints are almost invisible
