How do you tell what reach should be between forearm and buttststock?
My mossberg 500 doesn't seem to mount right.when I shoulder it it seems low for eye releif down the vent rail

[Edit] I just re-read what the OP said and changed my mind.

When you say eye relief is low, do you mean that you see too little of the "vent rail" and not enough of the bead?

I would think that ideally as you look down the rib, it should vanish into nothing as your line of sigh becomes perfectly parallel to it. The bead should then be completely visible.

If indeed your line of sight is too low, then it means that your cheek weld is too low. A shorter stock may help as your cheek tends to ride a shorter stock higher/closer to the front, but as we don't know your dimensions, nor your stance it is difficult to say. You shouldn't be cramming your neck, as it should just require a #### to the side and no straining forward or back.

If you've already got a good fairly squarish stance, you may want to look at a shorter stock, or adding a cheek pad or getting an adjustable comb.

Has to do with the length of stock mostly. Put the but end in the bend of your right elbow if you are right handed. Reach the trigger with your finger..should be to the first joint/bend of your trigger finger. Better yet just google shotgun fit.

it sounds like it is the stock is too long. when I raise it to my shoulder when I wear my hunting coat I have to bend my neck down to line up the bead. When I reajust to proper shoulder placement everything feels right. My mossberg tactical turkey has an adjustable stock and everything seems natural when raising the gun to my shoulder with the stock shortened up some. Now decission time shorten the stock or change to an adjustable one

Thanxs for the info
