Shot making

Ok, graphite it is! Thanks.

I just picked up a bottle and put some on my shot.

It's sold as "seed slik" and for a 1 lb bottle (1 liter size but is only 60-70% full) it was only $10.60 after tax.
Since you only need a little bit to coat 25lb it will last you a very very long time.

Bringing this to the top as I'm just now contemplating building one.

Where does one find "seed Slik"

Seed silk? Never heard of the term. Do you mean the graphite used as lube instead of traditional lube?
Have a picture of that "seed silk"? Ya got me curious now, lol.

Honestly, I haven't loaded any of it yet. I'm going to try loading it without graphite an see if it bridges in my MEC 9000.
I read somewhere a few years ago that talcum powder would also work as a dry lube for homemade shot. I tried it on some homemade shot a friend gave me and it seemed to prevent bridging although it was only a small quantity (15 pounds or so) so I couldn't do extensive testing.

When I ordered my new shotshell reloading machine the package contained a lil bottle with a white powder and it was indeed intended to lube certain parts of the machine once in a while. I'm now convinced it is talcum. But having a huge amount of graphite I never used that white stuff.
Graphite works on the shotmaker ramp but I can't say the same thing about talcum because I never tried it. Don't think I'll ever try it as I decided to sell all my equpment for shot making and the loader.
Maybe one day I'll get back into this amazing hobby but for now I must end the fun. Making shot was a such joyful and fulfilling experience.

Seed Slik:
Its just regular powdered graphite, nothing special.
Cheapest at farm supply stores.
My bottle is 16 oz/1 lbs and about 1 liter in size.

I know how much work this is ! But is anyone interested in selling their home made shot on a small scale.

I would be looking for about 10 bags a year.
