With temperatures at +2 today,I decided to shoot my rimfires today.I shot mostly at 50 yards, but shot some groups at 100 yards as well. The most accurate gun today was my Cooper in 17Mach2,that averaged .330" for three five shot groups at 50 yards. At 110 yards it averaged 1" for five shots, which is not as good as it usually does.My new CZ 452 Varmint thumbhole in 22lr has a horrible trigger, but it averaged .370" for three five shot groups at 50 yards, and I shot one five shot group at 110 yards that went 1-1/4".I will be fixing the trigger, and I expect smaller groups as a result. My Cooper 22lr averaged .400" for three five shot groups at 50 yards,as I seemed to put four shots in 1/4" or so,then pull one with every group. The Ruger 77/17 in 17Mach2 that I bought used from Clay at Prophet River, brought up the rear averaging around .600" at 50 yards for five shot groups, and it averaged around 1-1/4" at 110 yards for five shots. It too has a heavy trigger, but it doesn't creep like the CZ trigger.I haven't yet decided if I am going to keep the Ruger and try and make it more accurate,or just sell it instead.

Range time

Good for you Stub
Did you have the whole place to yourself? That is one of the things I like best about our range hardly anyone out there mid week. I am working on some loads for my Cz 527 K Hornet right now and I have a new Win 77 coming in the mail soon. FS

Actually I had the rimfire range to myself for an hour or so,then one other person joined me.There were several people on the centerfire range.
I am actually thinking about getting a Shilen match grade barrel to install on the Ruger 77/17.Considering the price that I paid for the gun,I could have a Shilen installed, and the total cost would be about the same as a new 77/17.I could sell the factory barrel for a good price to someone that has a 77/22,and wants a 17Mach2 for very little extra cash,to cut my costs down more. With a heavier contour Shilen, and proper bedding,it should be quite accurate.I actually like the gun, other than the fact that the accuracy isn't that great.

Some groups from the shoot.

Still thinking of a LH Cooper in HM2 myself, and this just pushed me a little closer to calling Clay...

I just mounted Kahles CL 3-9X42 scopes on both of my Coopers to replace the Leupold 3-9x33 rimfires, and this was the first time out.It certainly is a confidence booster when the worst five shot group at 50 yards with the Cooper Mach2 measured .350".:)
