Nice boar, did he go far after being hit? Two of us are going looking for them here in Sask. when it warms up.

The Rest of the story

My first day I set out we saw 5-8 boar under a tree, well that was too soon so I left them as I thought a farmed hunt would be easy. To my surprise I hunted and stalked for 4 hours before seeing a boar again. Took a little too much time and he ran away. Getting near dark on the fist day again the boar were on the move but fast I lined a tusker up he was moving fast I let a round go from my 30.06 the big old boy falls sinks in the snow and my shot just goes over him.

The next day I set out early find a few boars, under a tree I stalk in for a close look se the tusker line him up for a kill shot. I take out part of his spine but near the tough area on the front of the boar. He seams to be dead and just kicking, he jumps up with no use of his front legs and plows away in the snow pushing dead fall and snow for about 100 yards, I can get a clear shot so I think he will drop and die. Nope he gets up and runs away on all four’s. So I plunk my butt down have a snack rest a bit as its -25. Then I start the track lost of blood good tracks 2-3 km latter after tracking under over some very thick brush. I find him under a tree and he has a hard time getting up but I put him down with a shot to the heart.

They are one tough pig and very smart.

When you said they were tough in the previous post, you really weren't kidding. That's nuts, you shot it in the spine and it's still plowing through the snow! I had no idea that we had bores up here in canada (shows how much I know about the wildlife) but I'd love to go on a hunt.

Any good areas in alberta? I guess they don't require a tag?

you guys say that they're dangerous, so I guess that they charge? I heard that boars try and gouge your eyes out, sounds rediculous but is there any merit to that?
Any advice on if a boar charges and you don't have a gun?
