Shot my first deer (long story about shooting a smallish deer!)

Congratulations, I prefer the winchester power points and hornady leverevolution bullets for my .30-30 but thats cause it shoots them better and to almost same poi (1 1/2" higher) then the federal blue box. And if you haven't gotten rid of it keep the skull you're first buck is an important trophy.

I kept the skull. I plan to make a European mount out of it, but since I am too cheap to pay for a beetle cleaning, too lazy to boil it in a pot, and the ground is frozen soon so I can't bury it near an anthill, I will have to wait for spring to clean it off. I plan to just throw it in a tub of water and leave it for a few weeks - I've read that this is the best way to clean up a skull with little work and no damage to the skull.

I buried my bear skull in the flower bed in front of my apartment this summer and the worms cleaned it off in about two months.

geez dave you've got enough deer in alberta you shouldn't need to hunt in city limits. east coast hunting is a whole different beast all together. (i've hunted both) good story though zed. this is not the first time i've heard of people getting solid hits with no blood trail. i've also heard of fat oozing through the entry/exit wounds and plugging the holes. i wonder how many deer have been shot and left to rot because people thought they missed and gave up. damn shame. p.s. don't worry about the size of the rack. that looks like a solid body and as i said at the start you are east coast hunting unless you put a pile of time and effort into it you can't expect to get a 10 pointer every year here.
