I have been hunting deer for about 7 years now, and finally got my first buck!

I normally hunt with a bow back home, but moved to Ottawa where I can now rifle hunt. And sure enough, first time out for the season, I managed to anchor a nice 4 point buck.

He sure didn't make it easy for me though. I was sitting half way up a ravine looking down for him. Sure enough I heard him coming, and he headed right where I figured he would go but then he didn't. He stopped right behind the biggest tree he could find. I was hunting with a friend who is completely new to hunting, and had the impeccable timing of sneezing loud enough for the deer to hear him.

So the buck stood their listening and all I could see was his head and about 10 inches behind his head of neck through some thick brush and twigs. Remeber his whole body was hidden behind the tree . Didn't have much choice and had to thread the round through the sticks. Took aim with the 243, 2 inches below the head, center of the neck. The rifle went off, only saw orange through the scope, as it was 15 minutes from close. Heard a small noise from the deer, and that was it. He dropped dead right on the spot, fell down and landed on his back dead as a post. Somehow hit exactly where I had aimed. Great part is it was a clean kill and didn't ruin any meat.

Best experience of my life and sure hope to do it all again next year. But maybe without having to thread it through the brush next time!

Congratulations on your first buck it's the one deer you'll never forget. Ishot my first one over 30 years ago and it stillis as vivid a memory as if i'd been hunting this past weekend. Where's the pics?

I sometimes hit where I aim too. :p Just joking, great job.

Sorry guys, I really wish I had a camera but I don't :(

It certainly would have been nice, and I guess I will have to put that to the top of my things to buy list. Won't make this mistake twice.

I did cut the antlers off and kept them, but a picture certainly would have been nice.
