Shot my first sub 1" group today

While some people bed everything including chassis stocks I don't do any bedding if the rifle rests on a chassis ( AICS, PGW's, the Savage 110 BA or the TRG's being the chassis stocks I've owned ) but I do bed all others. What I find most important with a chassis system is to make sure everything stays nice and tight.

I suggest moving out to 200yds for all load testing and development. When I started with my 338 Lapua I was shooting at 100yds and was getting close to 1moa then moved to 200yds and with the same ammo went to 3/4moa. At 100 it seems like the bullet hasn't settled down and is erratic but at 200yds and longer the results improve.

I will also suggest you move up to 300gr bullets right away, your gonna end up there anyway so why waste barrel life and development time on the light stuff. Also try to stick to one bullet until you decide that it just won't give you the results you expect, I bought a bunch of different 300gr bullets to test and now I have load data for a whole bunch of bullets I don't plan to use any more. Keep it simple and do one thing at a time.

Nice shooting but I hope you realize your will soon be hopelessly addicted and nothing but sub 1/2moa will be good enough. I have a couple loads that I can do 1/2 moa in my DTA SRS and I'm still not happy. I think my rifle can do better and with a little fine tuning of my loads I am sure I will do it. Just need the weather to cooperate so I can get out to the range more often and I'll be there. It is a never ending quest for a tighter group.

Upgrade your optics as soon as you can afford to as well. I used to have an LRS-1 and could shoot good consistent groups but when you stretch things out the clarity and definition will fall behind. If you are on a tight budget try a Sightron SIII from Jerry at Mystic they are a great scope for the money and there is very little difference in clarity between my Sightron and my Nightforce. If you can afford it go Nightforce or even S&B. You will notice a difference and it's worth it if you plan to stretch out your Lapua.

Keep posting your results, Next set of targets you show will probably be 3/4moa :)

I see there is a couple of S3's that are 10-50 - how are these for optics quality? At the 11-1200 dollar price range that seems to be a pretty high magnification - do they suffer any side effects from being so agressive on the mag side (distortion, pincushioning other?)
