the 887's have a plastic sort of shield over the barrel, am i wright??? i would like to know if moisture would get trapped between the plastic and metal barrel and how that would affect the metal in the long run??? even using the gun in the rain, can water penitrate between the two? just throwing that out there.... any thoughts

I think some companies are realllyyyy putting on their try-hard pants to accomplish making a "tactical" gun...trying a bit too hard.

My $0.02

So far I have about 600rds through my 870 Tactical and no probs other than user error. She is banged around alot in my travels but I always make sure after a hard day she is cleaned and everything is checked for issues. so far no worries other than alot of scrathes and wear marks.

solid fun shotty for under $500 and another $200 for extra goodies :).

"New Coke"

I agree. I ordered one for a friend who is not Internet savvy, so I got a chance to take it apart, and shoot it. Piece of junk. It isn't an 870 with a special coating, it's a whole different (cheaply made) beast. The only thing I liked about it was it ergonomics and it's sights. The forend is cool and the contrasting FO front sight and mid sight is neat. I even thought the coating was interesting. But it ran like a crippled nun. When I took it part the action bars fell out of it-they aren't attached to the forend, just placed in there. It also has some weird bolt cover that falls off. To keep moisture away from the bolt maybe? The flimsy action bars made pumping gritty and caused a couple of FTE's. Feels/functions like something very cheap, hence the pricetag. I'll stick to 870's.

Pass on 887's

This IS an 887 tactical nitromag. And no there is nothing very similar between them and the 870s. From what I have handled... ratchety pieces of garbage.
