Survival food cache protein should be calory dense but not popular so that it'll actually be there when you need it. I try to put the ickier canned meats in mine like Spork, Klik, Prem, Spam. That sort of thing. Caution, this system doesn't work well with Newfs as they love the afoementione tinned meats.

if you are eating emergency rations by obligation; needless to say that your day isn't going so well . So why torture yourself more with food that tastes like crap? i say comfort food for occasions when life sucks is a good way to boost morale, and nothing boosts more morale than Bacon, well perhaps chocolate... but not together though

Well.. good point but if you keep your emergency rations so long that the tins are bulging, it might have been time to eat them a few years earlier so they weren't wasted. Otherwise, it's gotta be refreshed every so often. Might as well stock up with fresh and eat the older stuff before its use-by date passes.
