SHOT SHOW 2013 REPORT: Trackingpoint Precision Guided Firearm

Ok, but it states that it won't account for wind. When you 'paint' a target and it makes a solution, it will fire when you get back to the dot; so how do you account for wind then, if it only fires when it markes the dot?

One of the dials on the top of the scope is where you tell it the wind speed and direction. It wil then incorporate that into the firing solution.

Remember when weapon lasers were the size of Maglites?

Think 10 years down the road how small these scopes might get. (And cheaper.)

Very cool. Some might think of it as cheating, but if you had to choose would you choose an army armed with these or with standard rifles? The time of the machines is upon us. Soon it will be like Terminator.

How much does the total package weigh?

Is there anyway to compensate for gusting wind? Or do you just input a mean average?

i emailed them to ask some questions about purchasing one but they said that sales are currently only available to citizens of the united states. :(

I''m sure eventually someone will import them

I can just see it, new trackingpoint system only $60,000 CDN!

then when it gets to the EE, it will be a steal at 120,000$! "Brand New! only 500rds fired!"

By the time the US grants export permits, the Chinese will already have an airsoft version for $129.

Having said that, I had a private conversation with a well known name former sniper (There were at least 3 famous name snipers at SHOT, and I briefly spoke to 2) who said flat out that this will not be adopted by military, as military does not want to become so dependent on funky technology.
Just a thought for those that say this has no place in civilian sales.

The system is more than just a scope. The entire gun package is the system. You cannot simply buy a scope and release trigger to retrofit old Betsy.

I would take their comments with a grain of salt. DARPA has been studying similar technology for many years now, and while a lot of what they work on never makes it into a soldier's hands, some does. Especially if it really works.

The retired sniper I talked with was coming from a true snipers perspective, no doubt.
I can see the military using a simplified, much lighter version for a Designated Marksman role.
Not for every soldier, but several per unit.
