Shot Show 2015: Savage A17 .17HMR Rifle / CCI A17 .17HMR Ammo

Only option for 17HMR Semi Auto is Volquartsen so I am happy to see this.

There are some old Ruger and Remington's but they had issues.

Very nice. The only thing preventing me from buying a .17 is that we are not permitted to use it for small game here which makes no sense to me what so ever as .22 and .22mag are good to go.

where is home im curious where you cant use one for small game

Hmmm, I don't like the idea of "optimized for ###x rifle" ammunition. Time will tell.

This worries me as well.

Especially considering the post on ARFCOM said the ammo is tuned to make the rifle fire in cold weather. Here's hoping that's an exaggeration to sell the hot stuff.

I love the 17 hmr cartridge, this is gonna be pretty awesome! Finally a affordable semi auto in 17!

I'm very curious as to how they accomplished a delayed blowback action.

Am assuming the barrel is fixed?

at 40 cents a pop my 17 hmr doesnt get much use anymore. Sometimes for grouse hunting long range, but now I just bother less and prefer to carry a small, light, plastic .22 with a red dot....

If you were in the market for a Volquartsen you will be sadly disappointed with this offering. Cant even begin to express the impression of cheapness this rifle leaves after handling it. Wasnt impressed at all.

I'll wait and decide for myself. If the MSRP is sub-$500 and you've handled $300 Marlin XTs, $325 Ruger Americans and still don't think it's a fair price for the A17...then to each his own. I haven't handled it, but for the way I've heard this rifle described online, and by someone I know who was at SHOT, it sounds like it could be good value. For me, I'm waiting for accuracy reports before getting too revved-up about it. The CCI A17 ammo isn't a deal breaker for me, as I can't even find CCI .22 reliably in Southern Ontario. lol I have to wonder what that mega-box of it is actually going to cost if I ever even see it for sale.

I think all "savage" laminate stocks are made by boyd's unless that has changed of late.
