SHOT SHOW 2023: Ruger made Marlin 1895

I have compiled some data regarding the demand for the Ruger/Marlin 1895 45-70 models, take it with a grain of salt. I do not work for Ruger or Marlin, but I know these models and the distribution here in Canada very well.

The only two Canadian distributors that are not grey-market dealers are Korth Group Ltd. and Big Rock Sports. My understanding from speaking directly with Ruger/Marlin in the United States is that they try to distribute both Ruger Firearms and Marlin Firearms equally to both Big Rock and Korth Group. Both companies are authorized Canadian firearms distributors and importers.

I would have to say that Korth Group seems to produce more Marlin rifles that are available in Canada than Big Rock, but again this is only my opinion and observation from the last 2.5 years.

In saying that, I believe the backorder list for the Ruger/Marlin 1895 45-70 models is huge, very huge in fact.

Here is my guesstimate on the current Canadian backlog:

Marlin 1895 SBL rifles in 45-70 - backorder list is 6000 plus guns.

Marlin 1895 Trapper rifles in 45-70 - backorder list is 2500 guns.

Marlin 1895 Guide Gun (GBL) rifles in 45-70 - backorder list is 1000 guns.

Now remember, these estimates are only that, estimates and in my opinion only.

With the current shortage of lever action rifles in North America, and the world for that matter, my estimates could very well be low.

As for the new Marlin 336 in 30-30 caliber and the Marlin 1894 in 44 magnum or 357 magnum...well, these beauties will create a huge frenzy that will drive us Canadians crazy with desire to own, shoot and hold one.

I hope my research helps some of you in understanding the demand for these sweet Ruger/Marlin rifles.

If you have the opportunity to buy one, do it; you will not regret it.

In the event you decide to sell it, considering the current market, you will only make money!.......:)

I’d say that’s not entirely accurate or I’m the luckiest man alive.

3 trappers
2 GBL
1 SBL

And I’ve found my hunting buddy a SBL that he’s already kitted out with all the ranger point gear.

It's actually very accurate. And yes, you are very fortunate, no doubt.

Not everyone can afford to buy $2000.00 rifles and trade, sell and barter them like candy.

Small town demand isn't even close to large urban area demand.

A 336 in 25-35 Win would be hard to pass up for small game hunting in my .275" max. county.

But, what I really 'want' is a Marlin 1894 44Mag/44Spl c/w 24" Octagon barrel.
Factory drilled & tapped tang for a peep site would be a real plus.

Thanks for posting this informative video.

It is much appreciated!.......:)

You make a very very good point.

It seems the people really really determined to find them live in cities across Canada, and from my discussion with the local small shop owners, each shop seems to be ear marked at least ONE of each model, maybe two depending on their volume.. while a big store in the city might get 20, but have 1000 people looking for it… the demand for straight walled cartridges is meager on the west coast of North America vs the east cost, some places 45-70 is one of the very few rifle cartridges you can legally hunt with.. a bunch of states have straight wall restrictions.

I picked one up in Princeton, and the guy mentioned that it was on his shelf for over 2 weeks, couple people have looked it over but no one bought it because he didn’t have any 45-70 ammo in stock.

All I know is that may can’t come soon enough this year, there will be 3 of us chasing black bears in BC here with each of the 3 models of 1895, one will be running SBL with all the rangerpoint gear + scope , mine will be the trapper running that nice muzzle brake we just picked up off CGN and factory irons and my bro in law is going to run the Guide gun stock.. should be a blast of a season.

The amount of hate mail I’ve got about these rifles and me finding them is hilariously overblown since I sold one on here, people get so heated.. guess they’d prefer that they were left to be unsold in these small stores that don’t have a demand for them when hundreds of people are feverishly searching for them and money is no object… almost all of what I’ve found will be hunted with this spring locally *shrug*

There was a post on CGN 2 days ago, or maybe yesterday morning about someone spotting an 1895 in the wild, small town at a gas station? I believe that also sold guns that didn’t ship, maybe someone made that drive by now lol

Got mine last year, best Marlin yet except for the original pre-70's JM ones...worth every penny $1699, at least till the gougers have come out now.

According to marlin's website early 2023 for the 336 and Spring 2023 for the 1894.

Yes, I saw this as well.

Unfortunately, like the Marlin rep said to Calgary Shooting Center, this will be for their United States customers.

I hope I am wrong but I doubt Canada will see any of these 336 or 1894 guns before Christmas this year.

I'm hoping Ruger/ Marlin will bring the XLR model 24" barrels back into production. And I'm hoping that a variety of calibers with be available in the XLR too. Also I'd do a Cowboy with a 26" barrel.
