Shot Show Report: Magpul Masada

I think M4 clones will continue to rule. There are now drop-in conversion kits to retrofit existing M4 from DI to short stroke piston. There are also a number of manufacturers of piston M4 uppers of various quality, from excellent to okay, but all certainly accetable for the civilian market. Civilian enthusiasts will, I think, want to buy clones and semi-auto versions of what is used in operation by the military and the Masada has, in my opinion, a very limited if non-existant military future. It may very well be a good weapon, it simply will not come out on top against existing M4 conversion and uppers, and the up comming HKs and SCAR.

Maybe we should wait and see first?

Tootall here, on CanAm's computer.
The Masada uses standard AR15 barrels, with a locking ring press-fit onto it, to hold the interupted thread QC locking ring on.
This means that a 5.56mm could be changed to another calibre that shares the same magwell dimensions very quickly.

For a different size mag (AK, for instance), the lower reciever molding is swapped out, the barrel changed, and away you go.

The trigger group is removable from the lower in a modular unit, so the
cost of different calibre should be very reasonable.

The trunnion is made of real steel, it attaches to the front of the 7000 series aluminum extrusion that make up the upper reciever, and two steel rails attach to the trunnion, running back thru the upper for the bolt carrier to run on. This makes for a very smooth feel between the bolt and reciever.

Too early to give my 2 cents as they're only 3 months into the project... lots of things can change from now until production.

I'm sure a lot of people are wondering... the company started making accessories but now they want to design the whole gun? Let's all hope they can pull this off.

They've obviously made alot of cash on accessories :)

I hope it's available in Canada eventually, and by the time it hopefully is, I might have enough pennies stashed away to buy it!

On another note, anyone else figure it looks kinda like the XM-8?

As discussed before, it is like "both G36 and FNH SCAR downed a several bottles of Moonshines, then they went to the same bed without Trojans, and 9 months later they came up with this."
