Shot size for coons

According to our illustrious government, coon rabies has been eliminated in Ontario. http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Newsroom/LatestNews/240280.html "ONTARIO ELIMINATES RACCOON RABIES McGuinty Government Protects People And Wildlife".

Still a good idea to wear rubber gloves or just wash you hands after handling the carcass.
As long as your within 20 or 30ft, #4 or #5 lead shot will kill a coon dead.

ya that gave me a chuckle aswell, my wife is a veterinarian and I know that rabies is not wiped out in ontario.

but im sure the dr's like my wife are wrong and the liberal government is right. lets all bow down to our masters

"...they're getting into the corn..." You'll have to talk to the MNR first. Rocky is a fur bearing game animal with a hunting season.

Just get a decent dog or two!
no more critters problems... I use terriers, on anything smaller then a yote. keeps the homestead and surrounding area pest free...try it!

http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/239841.pdf pg 11 of this decribed the protection of property act

this quote says it all "Generally on your own land you may harass, capture of kill wildlife to stop that wildlife from damaging your property, this does not apply to moose, caribou, elk, endangered species or trapping black bear"

it mentions nothing about furbearing animals unless you intend to keep the pelt and then you must report it.

Live trap and a garbage can full of water, or just a garbage can, and a can of Ether starting fluid to asphyxiate them with.

The live trap will stay up all night, so you don't have to! :D

Growing up we always used #5 or #6 shot in a 12 gauge with a full choke. Usually did the trick with 1 or 2 shots. One big sucker took 6 shells to drop him (most likely shooter's skill). Put the bead on the varmints face and lett'r have it. Now I'm in Alberta where people think they're cute and want them as pets........if they only knew.

whenever i got a coon in the garbage i usually give em the old 30-06 but if i shoot em with the 12guage i usually use buckshot

Can't believe noone has mentioned the ol' farmer trick for raccoons. Fly bait and coke a cola, they will be dead before they get 10 feet away after eatting that tastey mix.

put it somewhere a dog wont get into it, don't think a cat would touch it.

Don't laugh at racoons. I was attacked by one in Stanley Park a few years ago. I had my kids snack in my pocket as we were walking a trail and the little devil heard the rustle of the wrapper and he shot out of the brush and proceeded to try to climb my leg to get to my pocket. I had the video camera in one hand getting shaky evidence as I am kicking the little monster off of me and keeping him at bay with my size 11. He eventually gave up. I won the day. In background of the video you can hear my 3 year old coaching me on how to handle this racoon and my wife laughing......

I have had a "tame" coon or buddies pet undo a pair of boots in 5 seconds flat! Just to see what was inside! They are cunning! Never underestimate wild animals!
