Got a few mag pies out at the farm that need to be taken care of haha what's size shot would you guys recommend? I'm thinking 6 but I've never actually hunted with a shot gun, just blow stuff up haha

I don't know about the magpies in your yard, but I've Never gotten close enough with a shotgun. Crack the door open and gone. 22mag out the window a couple of times. But never close enough with a shotgun

Thanks guys, haha I know their gone as soon as I open the door, they come back in about an hour though. If I can get a shot where theyre on the ground I'll use my 17hmr. Thanks again guys

Magpies have no body to speak of so you need smaller shot to cover what there is to shot at. Buddy shot one through one of those little holes at the bottom of the old windows once with his wife sleeping in the same room. He only tried that once.

Buckshot. 3 inch magnum. No body left, the red stain on the dirt will go away with the next rain and the feathers blow away.

The pattern needs to be as dense as practical. Standard target loads have always worked best for me. If I was going to specialize in Magpie control, I'd choose a 12 ga with 1-1/8 oz handicap trap loads of hard 7-1/2's or 8's. Modified choke because they like to dipsey doodle when the shooting starts, range is not as much of an issue as putting the pattern on them. They are very challenging to hunt and to hit. Not fast, but quick direction changes.

I blasted a magpie from the side of the truck with a waterfowl load......nothing but a puff of feathers.

Couple of years ago I blasted one by pure fluke with my bolt .22 and blew it's beak off. I then finished it off by stomping it to death.
