Good reviews on Winchester Varmint X bb. Tight patterns out to 40yrds, coyote killing with shotguns is like turkey killing.... multiple pellets hit are what kill!

Haven't ran them yet but I've got a box each of 3 1/2" 10 gauge BB in Tungsten and Remington wingmaster HD. If I ever get my 10 gauge back from browning in working order I'll try them out. Should be deadly stuff.

I take both a rifle and shotgun with me on my set ups. My Rem Wingmaster 870 28" barrel full choke and 3" mag #4's dump Coyotes beautifully at close range when they sneak up behind you. The downside is they mess up the pelt pretty bad,though.

I got two coyotes last week with my browning maxus. 3" #4 buck threw a pattern master long range choke.
First coyote at 45 yards and the second at about 15 feet. Both dropped like a stone and dead. I like 00 buck as well and usually load two #4 and last shot 00 buck.

The regs in BC for hunting with shotgun sets a minimum of OO buck. Coyote is listed in the regs, no $ tags, no bag limit, closed ....IIRC Mar 31 thru Sept 1....so breeding season.
Sorry, should have mentioned I'm in Ontario so I can use any of the BUCK sizes for Coyotes. Just started hunting the dogs as they've taken their toll on the deer here and those deer belong TO ME. It's an odd place to go for Coyotes as most of the books and videos I've looked at show guys hunting in open places. I'm doing this in fairly thick bush and it only has a few open spots. A rifle makes sense but then I've also read about them showing up at spitting distance. Great replies, thanks much to all.
Actually the B.C. regulations state : Shotgun must have a bore size of 20 gauge or larger and use shells of shot size No. 1 Buck or larger.
Winchesters 3.5 inch #4 buck is the hammer of Thor on both ends. 54 pellets at 2.5 oz .
Federal s 3 inch 41 pellet load of bluffered copper plated load is a great load as well.
I've also killed a pile with winchesters 2-3/4 27 pellet load of 4 buck.
These will be your cheapest over the counter load.
If you dont mind the cost dead coyote T 3.5 inch inch 1-3/4 oz the load and 3 inch 1-5/8 oz load is the top dog better pattern density can be achieved much easier with these loads.
If you can find the now discontinued Remington hd bb some where collecting dust on a shelf you need to grad that up. That is quite likely the finest over the shelf coyote load ever created. On 40+ yard hits you will get complete pass through on body and skulls broken legs etc.
Federal 3 inch heavy weight load of hd bb with the black cloud flight control wad is also truly amazing in its ability to break down heavily furred dogs. This being the absolute most expensive over the counter load available.
Last I checked they are around 50.00 for a 5 pack. What the @&$?.
Depending on what shot gun you are running something close to a .30 restriction in relation to you bore is a good starting point for patterning. Patterning before hunting is an absolute must. Not doing it is akin to hunting with an unsighted scope.

Sorry to derail but this is for dfarmer here in BC.....you are correct with the minimum 20guage and shot size of 1buck or larger HOWEVER I believe that is for large game only and I'm sure coyote is considered small game. It's in there somewhere.

Sure it is. They must both be legal for the game being hunted. Coyotes may be hunted with either shotgun or rifle,so,it's legal to carry both. Firearm equipment regs can be found in the table in The Summary. Pay special attention to BIG game species firearm restrictions and open season dates,though. That's where it gets tricky and mistakes are easily made.
