Shot velocity with semi-auto compared to pump/single

So 9 guns various barrel lengths and chokes with thrown handloads theres quite a variation in fps at the muzzle but doing the math by the time the pellets are spit 20 yards theyre all basically the same speed at that point.

The chrono is a fun toy. Years ago i built a shield for it and shot 1700fps rem hyper sonics vrs rem sportman 1300fps both in BB steel at 30 yards velocities were basicslly equal. The faster higher speed start slows down much faster as round pellets suck ballistically. Proved my point of not needing expensive hyped up shot that resulted in way more muzzle rise and muzzle blast and slower follow up shots.
My skeet handloads i use for small game hunting and bird hunting including turkey. I just change the shot size which plays with shot weight a bit. My loads bounce between 3/4 oz and slightly over 7/8oz depending on whether i load 6 shot or 9 shot.
Anyway i hope all my ramblings helped someone. Either way i enjoy playing.
As a side note ive measured variations in factory shot shells of over 100fps from shell to shell. Ive learned to not worry about velocity and focus on the target and keep the gun swinging and that works for me

really interesting read. i was taken aback that a high speed load would slow down as much as it did. thanks for the information.
