Brenden, Ive got a maverick 88 cruiser pistol grip and its now my go-to defensive gun. The only thing to remember is hold it out infront of you, so your arms are just unlocked. this puts enough room between the pistol grip and your face to safely fire it while using the bead sight. You wouldnt hold a handgun right infront of your face to fire it, would you? Just put your forward hand as far back on the forend as you can and use both arms to absorb the recoil, this takes all the stress and shockload off your trigger hand so you can shoot high volume without getting sore. The mossberg 500/maverick 88 receiver is lightweight aluminum and the gun is so light with a pistol grip, I used to go hiking with it just carring it in my hands without it getting heavy, now Ive got a sling and its nothing to pack all day. And as a few good men have discovered, its one tough ass shotgun, and one of the least expensive. A good pair of mechanics gloves with padding in the palm helps too, just remember to hold it out infront as far as you can without locking your arms and you'll be fine. It does take a little getting used to, but the compact size and lightweight make it so worth it. Hope this helps
