I purchased a BT99 a while ago that is both backbored and has the forcing cone removed. The work was done by a fella in Michigan (Mount Clemens area I think) who has an excellent reputation.
The gun shoots fabulously. I love shooting it. Low recoil and it just makes dust out of clays.
Just what does backboring do for a gun?
Is there any other benefit to having the forcing cone removed other than to reduce recoil?

The work was probably done by Kerry Allor In St Clair Mi. He is one of the best.

Both are supposed to reduce recoil and protect shot from being deformed either at the forcing cone or on their trip down the barrel, reducing pressure by backboring is also supposed to lower pressure, all these changes are mean't to deliver better, more even patterns.

I always thought that forcing cones were only lengthened not removed. Shotgun powder is fast burning and the cone allows the peak pressure to build quickly. But normal cones are short and the quick constriction can deform shot. Longer cones allow for a more gradual pressure build and less shot deformation. I used to shoot a backbored to .745 barrel with a longer cone and it had half the recoil of a hunting barrel.
