Hello All,

I own a Remington Model 11-48. I am considering shortening the barrel, however I am unsure what the measurement laws are. Firstly, do I measure from where the barrel appears to leave the receiver, from where it actually meets the receiver (0.5 inches in from where it appears to leave the receiver) or do I measure from the barrel tang? (3.0 inches from where it appears to leave the receiver). The barrel tang that slides into the anterior wall of the shotgun IS technically part of the barrel. If I could count it, I would be able to reduce the length of the shotgun by a further 3 inches.

Please give me your insight!

Yours,
Drachenblut

From what I know, the best way to do it is, close the action, drop a cleaning rod down the barrel, mark it off, and measure.

Bop 67 is correct. with the action closed insert a cleaning rod till it contacts the bolt mark it at the end of the barrel and measure the distance from mark to end of rod.

Excellent. I have measured as you suggested and will be able to remove 9 inches in total off the barrel (28-19") I've chosen to keep the extra .5 inches for safety's sake. Now, who knows a gunsmith in Alberta who can re-bead and rechoke this shotty?

After you cut your "shotty" you will have no Choke. So Choke tubes maybe an option.

Shortning a barrel

Check with a gunsmith first to see if there is enough metal to bore and thread for a chock tube. Another thing to consider - was this gun ever manufactured with a 19 in. barrel????

potentially u could sell the longer barrel and buy the shorter one, or like some people have more than one barrel.
