I took my shotgun to the range and shot 10 slugs through it for ####s and giggles. When I brought it home to clean it I noticed the bbl was grimier than normal so I started cleaning it......I got most of it out but near the forcing cone there is a build up of crap I cannot get off - I used bore cleaner and a bore brush.

After I gave the bore a scrubbing I ran a cloth patch down it and it came out with some metal on it (I am assuming it is lead - dull in colour and it is almost like sand)

Any other ideas....I am soaking it in bore solvent as I type this and I'll give her another try in a hour or so.

Thx.

Once you think your barrel is clean rip a piece of copper kitchen scouring/scrubbing pad (NOT STEEL), wrap it around your bore brush and push it through the barrel again, the tighter fit the better. You will be amazed at how much lead you remove and how big some of the pieces are, and it will also clean out the deposits at the forcing cone :)

ADDED: Maybe you won't see a whole lot of lead after only 10 slugs but after a few hundred rounds in a day you certainly will.
Cheers

Sounds like your forcing cone has been extended. You'd see about an 1-3/8" of what you describe as dull in color and almost like sand looking.

When the forcing cone is extended, it usually doesn't get polished to the same degree as the rest of the barrel. So that area will never look as clean as the rest.
