A Russkii mate, Victor came down from Sydney for a bunny shotgun session. He was keen to try out his new IAC 1887 28" barrel lever-action shotgun. I was keen to try out the new LED Lenser P7.

At 3pm, we loaded up the 4WD and headed off to one of my local spots. Vic was using Rio 34g No.4s, I was using Winchester 34g No.6s on rabbits and threw in a couple of Winchester SSGs for any surprises. Upon arriving, we checked out a number of gullies with blackberry that are normally active, but only presented an occasional opportunity at a rabbit.

Then we saw a fox sitting in the lush green pasture approximately 200m away. Lowering our profile, bent over we carefully made our way behind a fallen dead tree, I swapped the No.6s for SSGs and commenced whistling. After a minute or two, Basil came bounding in and was dispatched inside 25m with a single charge of SSGs. He was a suffering from mange, I did him a favour.

Moving onto another gully, we received a whiff of Basil and sat in the grass and started on the whistle again. Basil came in around the dam wall, crossing our scent trail, consequently running off. Vic missed, I missed with the first barrel, but connected with a quick second barrel of SSGs which caused the fox to cartwheel spectacularly into the blackberry encrusted gully. Recovery was impossible and unfortunate, as the fox was in excellent condition.

Vic was having troubles hitting rabbits on the run with his IAC 1887, but was able to hit them with my Breda Vega O/U. IMO the IAC 1887 is a pig of a thing to point.

With darkness upon us, Vic opted to swap to his Miroku lever-action 22LR with the Lightforce 140 spotlight. I mounted the new LED Lenser P7 to the bottom barrel on the shotgun.

The P7 worked exceptionally well on the shotgun with the rubber on the mount acting as a recoil dampener. Rabbits were brilliantly lit up within shotgun range. IMO, the P7 would be great for anything out to 150m max. Not really good enough for the 204 at its effect range. I am looking forward to using the P7 on the CZ 22LR.

All up, we had taken two dozen rabbits and a couple of foxes, a very pleasing afternoon/evening.
