Shotgun camo Finish Repair

If you add oil to a camo finished gun, you'll likely have more damage. Oil, sunscreen, mosquito repellant or any other chemical is a fast way to ruin a camo finish. I have purchased a matte clear coat finsh spray paint at Home Depot and sprayed the camo stocks on my Mossberg about 5 years ago. The clear finish is invisible and has kept the stock protected and looking new. You cant tell the difference between the sprayed stocks and unsprayed receiver and barrel

I think you better get used to the camo finish getting "thin" on a hunting shotgun. If its just a poser gun, go to the hobby store (eg Stedmans) and buy some touchup enamel.

Wear is inevitable unfortunately. Clean the area. Spray Krylon Fusion on a small hobby brush and quickly touch up. Finish with many thin layers of Krylon clear coat.
Or..wrap the whole thing in camo tape.

Cool thanks!!
Does the camo finish prevent rust? Does the spots where the camo finish rubs off rust easier?

It's likely thick primer. My sx3 has a couple chips and it doesn't look like a crappy bennelli or stoeger when they chip.
