I have my 14" 870 in the shop getting refinished. I basically have two options, Gun Kote and bluing. Does anyone have any experience with the gun kote product. How does it compare durability wise to bluing?

Thanks for your input.

Gun-Kote is a good product. Bluing is durable but will rust, Gun-Kote is very corrosion resistant. Done properly Gun-Kote will be as durable as bluing. Bluing provides a more traditional look that cant quite be replicated in my opinion but Gun-Kote offers the option of colors. I'm actually going to be Gun-Koting my 14" 870 soon.

Thanks for the advise. I will go with the gun kote and inquire into what kind of base they use. Is parkerizing as a base standard practice with applying gun kote?

That or K-Phos. K-Phos is a made by KG and is their recommended pre treatment to their Gun-Kote. It's almost like a cold parkerizing. It phosphate coats the metal.

I just called them and they are using a phosphate base. Now to decide between, flat, satin or glossy black... I will post pictures next month when I get it back.

Thanks for all the help.
