Shotgun Grip Adjustment

Hello All,

I have a Maverick 88 shotgun that I use on more inclement weather days for duck and geese. I find the standard stock is just a little too horizontal for my trigger hand and hurts my arthritic wrists.

I looking for some advice regarding modifying/building up the grip at the lower part of my trigger hand to make it a little bit more vertical. Has anyone done this before? What product have you used/was it successful?

ATI m4 adjustable stock. I run this on my 535ats but it will fit most the 500 series and Maverick 88. I have the drop shim and a shell holder on it as well. Cheap and effective. Stands up to 3.5" turkey loads for more than a decade

Perhaps something like the Magpul SGA Stock, that has a more favourable wrist position.


Grip Angle:

The Mossberg version features a steeper, more vertical pistol-grip angle (similar to an AR-15), which many tactical shooters prefer for leverage and control.

The Remington 870 version has a more traditional, sloped shotgun stock angle.


Length of Pull (LOP):

The Remington model is about 1/2-inch longer in its base configuration and features a slightly longer grip area compared to the Mossberg variant.




Cross-Platform Adaptability: Shooters modifying non-traditional platforms (like the Beretta 1301 tactical shotgun via aftermarket adapters) often debate these two: users favoring an AR-style grip lean toward the Mossberg SGA stock, while those wanting a classic layout choose the Remington SGA version.




Or an outright pistol grip set up.
