I know they can not ship across the border and I know that I cannot have loaded shells on me in the started but does anyone know if I am in the states can I but and bring back across the border primed shotgun hulls or is that the same as live ammunition, I can bring it across but if I get caught with it in the states I would be in trouble.

check the itar regs, if they are on the no go list then, you will have to take a major risk to export, think thousands in lawyers bills, loss of vehicle, no entry to the U.S. ever again (including even flying over u.s. territory. jail time. If they are on the Itar list, even being in possession could land you in the same world of hurt.

You Are Both Wrong;

The Explosives Act sets limits on the amount of ammunition and ammunition components that may be imported without an import permit. Generally, the Explosives Act allows individuals to import up to 5,000 cartridges of non-prohibited ammunition for personal use without an import permit.

found here, I bring back empty primed hulls all the time you are only limited to 5000 rounds or hulls or primers.

Importing is not the problem it is exporting it from the states that is the problem and from what the us boarder guys have told me no reloading componts of anykind aloud to leave the usa.

Canadian but that does not mean anything you have to leave the usa befor you get to the canada boarder gaurd. It is up to you if you want to do it but just a heads up if they catch you it will not go so well for you. And at my boarder they do a lot of random stops leaveing the usa to check for anything on itar.

Sorry coltsleeper but you are very much wrong. The Canadian regs only apply to what you can bring into Canada.

if you are taking ammo or components out of the US, you first have to deal with US Export regulations (i.e. ITAR). Just because the US authorities have not caught you taking ammo/components out of the US, does not mean it is legal for you to so export.

Do not confuse 'Lucky' with 'Legal'.

I suggest calling the RCMP and border control and speaking with them, I will not repeat what they told me but they will point you in the right direction.

LMAO you are missing the whole point. You are exporting a control item from the US. RCMP and CBS don't give a crap about US exports only Canadian imports. In this case you are doing both. You are calling the wrong people and really need to do your homework. It is your choice but you can't discuss illegal activity on here so be careful or you will get slapped with an infraction.

Thanks for all the info I have talked to the people to the border and they have told me roughly the same thing it's all fine coming into Canada the problem is getting caught with ammunition in the states I did not realize it was all reloading components that were illegal but I will try to find the right people in the states to talk to but if anyone here knows where I can get 2 1/2" 12 gauge hulls in Canada please let me know.

I load 2 1/2" 12 gauge shells with my Mec reloader. I have always reused factory kent hulls but they are getting old and I wanted to replace them without using a roll crimper but I might have to start cutting hulls if I cannot get 2 1/2" hulls from anywhere.
