Shotgun magazine restrictions

Just checked the ministry of natural resources hunting regulations Summary to confirm that when hunting ANYTHING with a shotgun in ontario it must be plugged to 2+1. Couldnt find any exceptions to hunting. Now shooting clays is entirely different and you could have a 100 round drum if thats what floats your boat. hope that clears up some of the confusion.

EDIT: BLASTED_Saber Beat me to it.

Ok thank you ............ I forgot that there is MNR laws to this as well.
So damn confusing all these gun laws we have

"...magazine restrictions for bird hunting..." The Migratory Bird Act is Federal. Actually our legislation to implement a treaty between us, the U.S. and Mexico. Applies everywhere in all three countries.
"...hunt bear or deer using a 12 gauge pump the 3 shot limit doesn't apply..." It does. Ontario's MNR has decided it's for hunting anything with a shotgun. Doesn't apply to target shooting unless you have a semi-auto. Then the silly mag capacity law applies.
"...defense shotguns with unplugged mags in hunting season..." Kind of silly if the season was a rifle season. They'd best check the hunting regs if it was an archery season. No firearms in the blind, at all here.

Ya I know. I probably unknowingly break at least one regulation every time I go hunting so I try to brush up on the latest hunting regulation summary once in a while to keep up with it all but its a lot to remember.

Good point i totally forgot about the semi auto shotgun mag restriction. Good example of so many useless rules its hard to remember them all.

You can carry a defense firearm in archery season in BC. Just can't shoot a deer or bear or whatever with it. (Unless the bear wanted to eat you)

If you are using shot of any kind in BC, 2 + 1, solid projectile for deer or black bear, whatever your gun holds taking into effect the 5 shot mag limit for semis.

Not actually hunting... camp gun is an 10+1 870 super mag with 7 3.5" OO buck (7+1) or an Ithaca 37 with 4 2 3/4 slugs in it. Only the Ithaca is legal for "hunting" loaded like that.

here in N.S. all we have is the Federal 3 round Migratory Bird limit and the 5 round Federal Mag Semi Auto Centerfire limit. For anything else you can load what ever it holds . However I find that my Mossberg 590 with 8 in the mag , 1 in the chamber , 6 in the side saddle and 4 in the speed feed stock is too heavy so I just take my Benelli M1 which only holds 4 . :)

Perhaps if you are shooting clays on you own or permissioned property. No Trap, Skeet or Sporting Clays club allows more than 2 shells loaded and only when it's your turn to shoot.
