Hello,

Please note - I do not have any experience with shotguns, period. I was raised strictly on handguns and am now trying to branch out into the other variations of things that go bang. Choke tubes, break action, buckshot....it's all French to me.

I am wondering if there is such a creature as a legal/non-restricted shotgun for sale in Canada that uses magazines and is semi-automatic.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. :stfun00b:

I'm fairly new to the field myself so I can't point you to a specific model but a semi-auto shotgun has to follow the same rules as semi-auto rifles to get a non-restricted designation. That means the overall lenght, barrel lenght, magazine limitation (5 round) and everything else that may make it restricted must be within the limits imposed on non-restricted.

I think your looking for a "clip" magazine, like the Valtro used to sell. There is one here for sale in the Exchange for $750?? There are a couple new ones as well hanging around in gun shops if you can find them. Otherwise I can't think of any other... you may be able to get conversion kits that will change the pump with tube mag feed to clip mag feed...

I'm pretty damn sure there are no semi-auto shotguns with detachable box magazines in available in Canada, non restricted or otherwise. The only one I can think of that fits the criteria is a Saiga, which is prohibited.

Forget semi-auto - just get a pump Mossberg and buy a Knoxx Sidewinder Conversion Kit. They have them available as 10 Round Drum Mags and 5 Round Box Mags (both detachable). Apparently they're coming out with a kit for the 870 as well soon.

I like semis, but there's something about a pump you just can't beat; especially with no restrictions on mag capacity etc. (assuming it's a non-rest).

why would a restricted pump have a restriction on mag caps by definition shouldn't restriction allow you to have more since they arn't for sporting purpose's my thought but what makes a NR pump diferant then a R pump

That's because according to the CFC and Wendy, sporting guns are safer because they look like sporting guns, so it doesn't matter how many shots they hold. Restricted guns MUST be inherent killers otherwise they wouldn't be restricted, so they MUST restrict the magazine capacity on them!!!
