Hi guys (and gals), I just picked up a Winchester Super X2 last week from Bass Pro (26" barel, 3.5", 12ga), on clearance. I wanted something reasonable to start out with for under $1000, and this seemed to fit the bill. I plan on mostly shooting trap/skeet, and I may in the summer get my hunting license and go out for some Turkey!

I have some questions...
1. in terms of storage, bolt forward (or released...) with the trigger pulled? just wasn't sure if dry firing is bad on these. I have been told dry firing rimfires are bad...same with shotgun?

2. I went up to cookstown, on Sunday and shot at the skeet and trap range. I loved it, and can't wait to get back out. I would really like to find somewhere that I can break in the gun, get it cycling properly, and also practice skeet. I don't know anyone with large plot of land... where can I go that I can safely do the above? I have a dirt bike, and I was up in the sand pits @ Raglan, and I saw tons of shotgun shells lying around, and durring the summer I have heard shots going off, is there somewhere around there I can go?

3. Can someone recommend some decent priced ammo that I can use to break the gun in? I was using Winchester AA 2 3/4" 1 1/8" #7 on Sunday @ the range and found that maybe 2 our of 5 rounds would not cycle completly. I bought a case for $84.50 (my cousin got the same gun in the 28" version) and my boss was using the same ammo in his SxS...so we went through that case...but I wonder if there is something cheaper when just getting rounds through the shotgun.

Thanks in advance!

I have an SX3 that I bought from Bass Pro as well. I store with the bolt closed and trigger forward, I have dry fired and pulled it apart and I do not see where any damage can be caused by dry firing.

Once you clean it after the first outing it will run flawlessly. I broke mine in with a flat of Super X ammo (8 shot) and had about 12 FTE's. The next week it ran through a flat of 7 1/2 shot without a single hiccup.

I buy flats of Super X at Bass Pro. I stocked up at $64.90 each but the prices may have gone up $10.00/flat in the last couple of weeks.
