Hi,
I recently got the Mossberg 590A1 as a gift. It's the newer model that comes with the Accu-choke. I was wondering what would be the best choke (set?) to put on it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It came with chokes? To answer your question you must determine your intent. That is what makes chokes so versatile, you can switch them depending on what you are shooting.

Have a 590A1 with the accu-choke system. With the installed cylinder bore I find it really accurate for slugs (tested out to 50 yards) but the pattern of 00 buck a little wide for my taste at 10 yards. Was looking at this to tighten the pattern up just a bit:

As previously mentioned it does depend on what you're using it for, try this for reference:

Hope this helps and congrats on the gifted 590A1.

It came with the ability to have chokes put in it. It came standard with a bore cylinder choke. I plan to use it for turkeys, waterfowl and some skeet shooting. So, which chokes would work best as well as be compatible with the 590A1?

Thank you very much, that was a very helpful article as well as a good link for compatible chokes.

How long is your barrel? Under 20" may be a challenge for skeet and many clubs have minimum barrel length requirements.

Besides the OEM Mossberg choke tubes, Mossberg Accu-choke barrels should also be able compatible with Winchester or Browning Invector tubes (including any aftermarket tubes made for these applications). Suggested choke constrictions for your intended uses are as follows:

-Turkeys: extra full
-Waterfowl: modified
-Skeet: skeet or improved cylinder

I like a really tight choke, at least a Full but XF turkey is even better, for shooting cheap, readily available bulk target loads with during practice, as more open chokes throw too wide a pattern to be useful for all that much.

Just be sure to switch out to a more open choke if you're shooting slugs or buckshot larger than #4.

Damn it, when did they start coming out threaded for chokes? Had my non-threaded barrel threaded by TacOrd. :p

Think it's only one model.

I'd rather get a1's threaded By Tac-Ord for Rem-chokes anyway (vs the Accu-Choke) so it's the same as the 870's.

This is great advice.... and why having a range of chokes is useful. You can tailor choke choice for what you're doing.

It gets expensive practicing all the time with slugs & buckshot. Practicing with the cheap 7 1/2 stuff is a compete waste of time unless you choke it down hard like 870P is saying' here.

How would I go about getting my A1 barrel threaded for chokes? Is Tac-Ord a member on the forums? Sorry I'm new to the site.

I buy most of my gun parts on ebay. Just bought Invector chokes (same as Mossberg and Winchoke) for about $10 USD each.

At a minimum, I think you need Skeet or Imp Cyl, Modifed and Full. I also bought a rifled choke and a XFull, since they are so cheap.
