Hey guys,

I have been thinking about buying a shotgun for hunting (turkey/deer) here in southern ontario. I'd like to keep things fairly inexpensive ($500 or less) so I am wondering what my options are.

Would something like a Remmy 870 EXPRESS be a good buy or are there better shotguns out there in that price range?

Cheers

The 870 Express combo or Mossberg 500 combo might be what you need. Both are reasonable in cost and come with a shot barrel and a slug barrel. If you want better slug accuracy go with the Mossberg if it comes with the fully rifled barrel. I don't believe the Express comes with a rifled barrel.

The 870 Express Magnum Combo comes wiht a vent rib barrel and a rifled barrel with iron sights for between $500 and $600 depending on where you get it. Will be good for all birds and deer. I wouldn't dare take mine out for moose.

My wife has a Mossburg 835 camo turkey/ slug (2 barrel) combo. Price was around $400.00. Good value for the dollar, shoots very well. Almost any of Mossburgs combo's will suit your needs without breaking the bank.

My brother just bought a new Remington 870 Super Magnum from SIR for $330. I went to Wholesale Sports and asked how much their's were. The dude said $400. So you might want to check that out.

Mossberg is the way to go on this one, especially with there 835 Ulti-Mag Thumbhole Turkey Series, i have shot a few of these guns and they would be great for turkey hunting ....

Don't forget the Mossberg 525 ATS Turkey/Deer Combo! It's sweeet.

Just finished picking through for my first shotty and got the 535ATS Turkey/Waterfowl.

I have fired slugs through the turkey barrel, and unless you are hitting deer at distance, I'd say this combo could go on just about any hunt in Ontario (or probubly all of North America).
