in my recent shotgun news, they advertise a cal.22lr AK-47
question is, they work off blowback principal, no ak interchagable parts, can and will the RCMP ban these too just on the basis of looks alone? again they are a NEW and totaly different animal , they cannot be converted , they do not use any ak parts, they just look like an AK.
www.americantactical.us (not a link)

answers anyone

Is there any standards or guidelines the council follows when determining what is a 'variant' whether it be interchangable parts, grips etc or is it just what they 'feel like'?

heh it is a link didn't think i could do that.
what makes it a variant? usually it has to work on the same principal,or have interchangable parts, to be classified a variant or rechambered for a differnt caliber but same gun. looking like an existing rifle does not make it a variant. the gsg-5 can be a variant because it uses the same blow back pricipal as the original mp-5 and has interchangable parts.
i'm not saying your wrong but don't they have to use the same" tape measure "to look at all firearms? if they use a differnt criteria on every thing that comes out then there will be no new firearms alowed into canada. if this is the case then we need to have the way they do bsiness looked at.

Yes and they have in the past. The Mitchell Arms AK22 was banned as an AK variant and it was a blowback .22 rimfire that had only a passing resemblance to the real thing.

You are wasting your time looking for sense and reason in our gun laws. The only reason inherent in our gun laws is that the previous lieberal government didn't want civilians (ie you) to own guns. Apply that reason to our gun laws and it all starts to make sense.

A gun is a variant if the RCMP says it is. That is all the justification that is required.

Remember all the guns that are canadian prohibs came from the usa list of prohibs for importation. The guns already in the us were ok. Canada took some of the guns without compensation on our list.
