A guy is offering one up in a trade. Likely it would be used as a hunting firearm and maybe smash some clays. Is there anything to know or look for in these shotguns? Any info and/or experiences appreciated.

Ya, recoil fro. a 3.5 inch shells hurts. Ive hunted everything from rabbits to deer with a shotgun - never felt the need for a magnum. The gun itself is okay - a working man's gun. Inspect it good first; people can be rough with cheap 870s. And then forget it is a 3.5 and buy 2.75" shells....
I have had one for over 15 years as a dedicated turkey gun and it works just fine with anything I feed it. The 3.5, especially in turkey loads is brutal and i am a fair sized boy. Have used it for skeet shooting as is and it works like any other 870.
Thanks folks. I still have not been able to see it. I have no need for, nor want to shoot 3.5...other than for curiosity. It will likely only see 2.75 from me. I always wanted a pump but never acted on it. Might be a good opportunity.
I took the trade today. Firearm in decent shape. Has some field rubs and whatnot. The receiver has some very light discoloration. Almost patina like...but may come off with some light elbow grease. Ill get some pictures up later.
Anyone have a go to method for removing said light rusting?
