Shotgun only deer hunters?

I am

I broke down last year and bought a black shadow fully rifled shot gun.

Better then the ol'smooth bore.

I am going for the Win gold partion ammo

So how many of ya are going after deer with only their shotgun whether or not it's mandatory in your area?
:shotgun:.............................:ninja:
If "yes" what are ya using?

870 Express Super Mag with 20" fully rifled BBL, and probably also my 870 Marine Magnum (18" cylinder bore); it's got Wilson Combat ghost ring sights on it and should do OK with the rifled slugs...

870 Super Mag with 24" smoothbore, improved choke and rifled slugs. Find a slug that will shoot well in your gun. If you can only use buckshot make it less thank 30 yards, better yet stick with 20 yards, but they will go down.

Same here, though isn't it a 21" barrel? Every inch counts. :D

Kicks like a freekin' mule with sabots, but is pretty accurate with a Bushnell 1.5-4x32mm scope on the cantilever rail. But that's only for the controlled hunt down here in Southern Morontario.

I'll stick with my 8mm Mauser for further north. That rifle handles beautifully.

I did the exact thing about 5 years back... the Black Shadow with a 1-5x scope is a deer killing machine!

Never have I seen deer drop faster than when hit with those Partition Gold sabots. The first deer I took was a spikehorn, shot it running quartering away at about 75 yards. As soon as the gun cracked he dropped like a sack of hammers.

You will be impressed with both accuracy and killing power.

The last one I shot from about 60 yards with the partion made it stand on its hind legs and fall over backwards

870 mag regular slug barrel, federal v-shok slugs.

I want to buy a hastings rifled slug barrel but i wont get time off from work for shotgun season so no point yet. I bought a crossbow instead and im going to try it this year.

I'm using a Mossberg 500 with a rifled and ported 24" bbl. The unit is topped with a bushnell 1.5 x 4.5. I picked up some of the new Hornady slugs, should be fun!!

I have 2 mossberg 500's with rifled barrels. One with a 6X scope for posting and one with sights for the bush. I love the extra challenge of using a shotgun. Bowhunting is still too much of a challenge for me tough. It's not so much the range as much as the second shot option...:D

Sluggers

My slug gun line up is as follows:

Savage 210F 12 gauge - For still hunting to make those long shots
Remington 1100 20 gauge - For busting sloughs and bushes
H&R Tracker II 12 gauge - For packing when I go bow hunting.
H&R Ultra Slug hunter 20 gauge - just bought it to try.

Arch:)

I'll continue with the "Hey Arch" side bar...

Did Savage ever make the 210F with Rifled Barrel? Everything I've seen is smooth bore. If smooth - what's your preferred load? What kind of accuracy do you get from it?

I primarily bow hunt deer, but this year i am only going to be able to get out a couple of times. I've setup a mossberg 535 turkey tactical with a 2-7 burris fullfield for slugs to get some extra range (over the bow). I use the winchester 3 inch rifled slugs out of a 20 inch barrel and am very happy with the accuarcy. Have never tried a shotgun on deer and can't wait to get out.
