I was day dreaming about the range time I'm going to get this weekend and drafted this patterning target up. What do you guys think? Any suggestions/modifications you would make, especially to the notes? The circles are 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10" big and the page is 11x17.

Let me know if you have issues downloading the pdf. You shouldn't have to sign up, you should just be able to download it after entering the security image.

Thanks!

Edit: This will be my first time patterning my gun, any tips?

Hi. 11" x 17" is too small. A shot pattern at 25 yards with an open choke(ie modified) can be 30 inches.
"...any tips?..." Kind of depends on what you're doing with the shotgun, but the idea is to know where and how dense the pattern is at specific distances. As in, the whole pattern shoots a bit left at 20 yards, but X% of the shot is within X number of inches.
Draw an aiming point, say an inch or two diameter(it's just an aiming point), in the middle of the biggest pieces of paper(flattened, card board boxes work well and are usually free) you can get, stick it up at known distances, then draw a circle around the area with the most holes.

Just curious which range you are heading to as I noticed you are Toronto area? Silverdale does not allow shot on their range and Target Sports is apparently 00 Buck only?
I was told to get a roll of 36" wide butcher paper for patterning at 40 yards. You rip off a square and draw a dot in the middle for aiming. 1000 foot roll of 36" wide is only about 45 bucks.

Yup Target is only 00 buck. I can't understand how they don't care for rifle rounds in that range, but won't let you shoot a slug.

I'm going to Silverdale, taking the opportunity to shoot some shotgun after my IPSC match. I know Target is 00 only, but I was under the impression that shot was allowed on some of the SD ranges. I will check when I'm there.

It's not the clubs it's the retarded CFO restrictions. The local range has to do a bunch of modifications to get 2 patterning boards at the rifle range. Oh and You aren't allowed to shoot off hand. Bench only. Rules in this province are goddam stupid.

The 40m and 50m ranges are definitely slug only, at least they were 3 weeks ago when I was last out. Both have "no shot" signs posted. Might want to give them a call before you head out.
