This isn't a reloading problem per say, but I figured people here would know the problem.

I was trying out some new turkey loads (factory) and I noticed that on one of empty shells, the primer was missing. looks like it got pushed out by the pressure in the shell.

Is this a problem? or just happens once in a while with the higher pressure turkey loads.

??

It also could indicate that case may have been reloaded too many times. There is a little punch and base that lets you peen the primer hole smaller, but it is probably not worth the effort , unless it is a hard to get case. But you said factory loads. What type of shot gun , auto, pump , etc.? Even if you had excess headspace it would be 1000th of in. , so there is not enough room for the primer to blow out but it could fall out after it is ejected. PUZZLING.

It was in a beretta, which had a 3" chamber (but it was a 2 3/4 shell). It's a factory load so reloading is not the cause.

my first guess would be that since it's a turkey load, it's loaded pretty high, (compared to thier regular field/duck loads) that it was the cause. (but the other 6 that we shot both in 2 3/4" and 3" never had a problem with the primers. I checked the floor around the shell, and I didn't find the primer, so I suspect it came out with enough force to send it flying (and not be able to find it)

I know one of the guys who works for the company, and I'm going to bring it in to him, to take a look..

The primer could not leave the shell as long as the case was against the face of the breech. It likely fell out when the action was opened and the case was ejected. For whatever reason, there was insufficient friction to retain the primer in the case after firing - expanded casehead, enlarged primer pocket, etc.
