shotgun question Rem 870 EXPRESS SYNTHETIC TACTICAL

Any express is going to be lower quality than even the original Wingmaster.

If you can afford it, pickup a Police or old Wingmaster (Police model didn't exist until later).

I have to agree with Melbuspower. The express are budget guns and will shoot but the fit, finish, and smoothness is not definitely there. As an example, I bought an express barrel to use on a wingmaster and after a couple weeks extraction problems developed. I came to discover the barrel is not chrome plated. The chamber started to rust causing shells to become difficult to extract. I have never ever had that issue with the higher end Remingtons and I have had one for over 3 decades.

Ancient Chinese proverb, “He who buys the best only cries once.”

This was my first shotgun. There will be no extraction problems if you lubricate the gun properly. Just make sure you dont "clean" all of the grease off of the bolt assembly, theres a reason its shiny. Newer/lower price does not always mean lower quality.

If you are looking for a top quality pump, Benelli SuperNova Tactical would be amongst the best. If you are looking for a semi, the Benelli M4 Tactical is considered to be the best Tactical semi on this planet. However, keep in mind, you get what you pay for so yes they are more $$. Like the others said, if you are looking to save $$, go with an older 870 Police model.

870 express is the kind of gun that you can use to hammer in a fence post with in a pinch. They serve the purpose though, and are fairly reliable. If you're looking to make up a home defence firearm, its not bad at all.

Depends if you are talking about the 870 express synthetic 7-round, or the 870 express tactical. The former is just a regular 870 express with 18.5 inch barrel and mag extension.
They are fairly inexpensive, but their quality has gone down considerably over the years.
The latter is a bit more expensive, but has a better finish and a smoother action.
